Microneedling Treatments

Microneedling (also known as “collagen induction therapy”), is a versatile and highly effective cosmetic treatment that can help address a variety of common skin concerns and enhance the overall health of the skin. This popular, minimally invasive procedure is often praised for its collagen-stimulating and skin-rejuvenating benefits, as well as its ability to improve the appearance of enlarged pores, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, acne scars, and other textural issues.

Microneedling is performed using a handheld, pen-shaped device, electrically powered, with tiny needles that make precise, microscopic punctures wounds into the skin’s surface. The needles just barely puncture the skin, causing “micro-injuries” which then kick starts your body’s natural healing response. Skin cells immediately get to work rebuilding themselves through a process called dermal remodeling. This process allows your body to reproduce elastin and collagen giving your skin a plump, smooth and youthful look – just as it did when it was consistently producing collagen in our early 20’s.

Another tremendous benefit of microneedling is its ability to allow other topical skincare products to more efficiently penetrate the skin, where they can affect cells at deeper levels. What’s more, microneedling isn’t exclusive to just the face— It can be done on any area of the body where the skin needs repair including stretch marks, and acne scars on the chest, back and rear.

Why treat skin using Microneedling?

If you are prone to acne and have scars left behind to prove it (or any scars for that matter), large pores, fine lines and wrinkles, can’t quite seem to get rid of age spots or sun damage, or have stretch marks that won’t fade, microneedling is the fast, non-surgical and long-lasting solution you’ve been looking for.

Though the thought of needles may make you cringe, microneedling is not painful. It has few side effects other than temporary redness and swelling post-treatment. Microneedling is often seen as a comparable alternative to laser treatments and chemical peels that are also used to help resurface the skin and improve its texture. Not only is it significantly less expensive, but also because it’s better suited for darker skin tones since lasers involve heat and can alter the skin’s pigmentation.

  • Microneedling is appropriate for patients looking to improve common skin concerns that make them look or feel older.

    • Anyone looking to help alleviate:

    • Acne scarring

    • Stretch marks

    • Large pores

    • Fine lines and wrinkles

    • Hyperpigmentation (overall skin clarity)

    • Texture

A consultation is essential to ensure your candidacy.

  • Anywhere between 1 and 6 treatments depending on your desired results.

    Expect about:

1 treatment if you’re trying to minimize your pores

2-3 treatment sessions to rejuvenate the skin.

4-6 treatments for deep scars, wrinkles, extreme texture, excessive large pores (mainly men here).

Once results are achieved then maintenance is 1-2 times a year.

  • It is a relatively quick procedure performed (mostly) on the face, it can take anywhere from 15 minutes up to an hour depending on the treatment area.

  • We administer a topical numbing ointment prior to treatment that takes the edge off of the pain. The feeling is an intense vibration with some instances of sharp pinching. Some areas of the body are more sensitive like the forehead or nose.

We may adjust the depth of our microneedle pen for a more comfortable treatment. We also make adjustments based on your skins thickness in each charted treatment area.

  • Depending on the skin condition, changes can develop over the course of a few days or several weeks after treatment. Visible improvements can appear for up to six months after the original treatment. People may need up to 4 to 6 treatments to see the results they are looking for.

  • Following the right pre-treatment instructions ensures that your treatment will go smoothly and helps minimize side effects.

    • Avoid Accutane in the six months prior to beginning your treatment sessions.

    • Sun exposure and/or usage of a tanning bed, including self-tanning products must be avoided for a minimum of 24 hours before and after the treatment, and preferably for up to 1-2 weeks to minimize the risk of post treatment temporary dyspigmentation (darkening or lightening of the skin).

    • Please be advised a treatment will not be administered on sunburned skin. Do not use topical agents that may increase the sensitivity of your skin such as retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics or acids 5-7 days prior to your treatment.

    • Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil for at least 3 days prior to your microneedling session. These will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical for your skin rejuvenation.

    • Avoid IPL/Laser procedures, unprotected sun exposure, or sunburn for at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure.

    • No waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis to the area being treated for 5-7 days prior.

    • Do not shave the day of the procedure to avoid skin irritation. If there’s dense hair present in the treatment area, shave the 1-2 days before you arrive for your appointment.

    • If you’re prone to cold sores, take an antiviral agent for 2 days prior to and the day of the treatment.

    • Avoid blood thinning agents for one week prior because bruising is a common side effect of microneedling.

    • Botox and Fillers have to be done minimum of 2 weeks to 21da prior to treatment.

    • Gently massage the face with tepid water (a shower can provide an easier ability to massage and wash the face), and remove all serum and other debris such as dried blood. This will improve the appearance of the skin and allow for better subsequent absorption of post-treatment skin care.

    • For the first 1-3 days the skin will be very dry and feel tight. Frequent use of a recommended skin care will help alleviate this.

    • After 2-3 days, or as soon as it is comfortable to do so, you can return to regular skin care products. Vitamin A products are optimal and suggested.

    • Avoid alcohol based toners for 10-14 days.

    • Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 10 days if possible.

    • Do not apply chemical sunscreen the same day as treatment. Undesirable chemicals can penetrate if used in large amounts.

CLEAN: Use a soothing cleanser or face wash with tepid water to cleanse the face for the following 48 hours and dry gently. Always make sure your hands are clean when touching the treated area.

HEAL: Professional skincare is recommended post treatment as the properties are perfect to help heal the skin, and it will also help create healthy skin

HYDRATE: Following your Microneedling treatment, the skin may feel drier than normal. Hyaluronic Acid is an ideal ingredient to hydrate and restore the skin back to perfect balance.

STIMULATE: In the days following your Microneedling treatment, as the skin starts to regenerate, collagen stimulating peptides are ideal to keep the simulation going.

MAKEUP: It is recommended that makeup is not applied for 12 hours after the procedure. Do not apply any makeup with a makeup brush if it is not cleaned.

PROTECT: 4 hours after the procedure, apply a broad spectrum UVA/UVB physical sunscreen with an SPF 30. Recommended active ingredients: titanium dioxide or zinc oxide.
